National Holistic Institute is one of the largest and most respected massage therapy schools in the nation. NHI was founded by Carol Carpenter, who learned massage informally and sought to develop a professional training program for massage. Carpenter sought to improve massage therapy education developing a program teaching, western style massage therapy, eastern style massage therapy, anatomy and kinesiology, with marketing and business classes. In keeping the high standards of excellence, the National Holistic Institute is nationally accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Due to being the first nationally accredited massage school in California in the early 1980's and therefore it is the first massage school to offer federal financial aid in California.

Its Core 900 Hour Massage Therapist Training Program fully prepares graduates to have a rewarding and successful career as a massage therapist. These graduates work in spas, clinics, chiropractic offices, etc, as well as in satisfying private practices. Graduates of the Core 900 Hour Massage Therapist Training Program are proficient in various massage modalities such as: Swedish, Shiatsu, Deep Tissue and Myofascial Therapy. The additional business classes, science classes and clinical experience create a holistic curriculum, equipping graduates with the skills they need to work in the rapidly-growing industry of massage therapy.

The U.S. government’s federal register states that “The essential purpose of the accreditation process is to provide a professional judgment as to the quality of the institution or program(s) offered, and to encourage continual improvement.” We are periodically reviewed by our accrediting agency, both via scheduled and unscheduled visits, to ensure that we maintain high standards.
National Holistic Institute is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET). ACCET is listed by the U.S. Secretary of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency.
National Holistic Institute's approval to operate as a private postsecondary school in the State of California is based on provisions of the California Private Postsecondary Education Act (CPPEA) of 2009, which is effective January 1, 2010. National Holistic Institute under Section 94802(a) of CPPEA will, by operation of law, be approved until December 31, 2013. The Act is administered by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education, under the Department of Consumer Affairs. The National Holistic Institute's accredited massage therapy school is an eligible institution approved by the United States. NHI's accredited massage therapy school adheres to the national standards for Massage Therapists established by the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA). The Association was established in 1943 to promote the practice of professional Massage Therapy. AMTA is the largest and most influential organization in the field. NHI has been affiliated with the AMTA for over 25 years and is a member of the AMTA’s Council of Schools (COS). National Holistic Institute is a Board of Certification (BOC) Approved Provider for Certified Athletic Trainers.

Its Financial Planning department has a team of dedicated financial aid counselors ready to help its students through the massage school tuition and application process. There are many options out there and the respective counselor will make sure to take advantage of all that is available at the moment.
NHI participates in various federal student financial assistance programs, most of which are need based rather than credit. Although there are no specific massage therapy grants, students can potentially qualify for federal pell grants for massage school. In fact, NHI is one of only a few massage therapist schools in California that qualify for Federal Financial Aid programs, including:
